To Forget the EDSA Revolution is to Neglect the Future Generations.

On February 22, 1986, the People Power Revolution, also known as the EDSA Revolution, occurred. It was a momentous time in history that showcased the power the people have when they get together and fight for it. To celebrate this occasion, last February 23, 2024, anti-Bongbong activists staged a rally which our current government heavily disagreed with. It lasted for three days and the protests occurred at old monuments that are symbolic of this event.

Remembering our history is crucial to ensure that it doesn’t repeat itself. In the case of the Philippines, they have forgotten history as his son, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romauldez Marcos Jr. currently took over his previous seat at the table. The EDSA Revolution managed to bring down a power-hungry dictator who abused his authority and caused nothing but havoc in the nation, Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Not celebrating this event would be a great dishonor to those who fought for our freedom and rights. Should we truly disregard their efforts by not celebrating their success and independence? Should we truly put aside the voices they once used to take back what they deserved? All because of the son of a dictator who does not want his people to celebrate his father’s downfall? Because of a man who does not care to respect the country’s traditions. To forget history is to let it repeat itself. Do not let another president silence you. Do not let a president discredit those voices who gave you your independence.
