Buwan ng Wika: The Passion of the Filipino
The Buwan ng Wika is a special time in all of the Philippines where everyone wears the traditional attire of the Philippines. It is a month to celebrate our culture. A month to appreciate ourselves and our language, Filipino. We hold this every year to commemorate our ancestors, and thank them for their service.
Back in August, Matilda L. Bradford Christian School celebrated this event. Hosted by our beloved teachers, sir KC Canuday, and Ms. Lai Ronette, it was a time filled with joy, anticipation, and most of all, love. Love for our fellow Filipinos, love for the Philippines.
This event started off with a greeting from our lovely hosts, and an introduction of our judges. The Junior High School dance club graced us with a wonderful presentation to begin the competition for being the 2023 MLBCSI Lakan and Lakambini. Each representative from the grade levels presented themselves wonderfully, but only few took home the crown. For the lower elementary department, our Lakan came from the grade 1, (boy name) and our Lakambini, Kiersten Misterio, from the grade 2. In the Higher Elementary department, our Lakan, Nathan Orville R. Qunapondan and Lakambini, Khayle Gavin A. Gacayan both came from the Grade 6. For the High School department, the grade 10 took home the crown with our Lakan, Edrian Jaime U. Aldas and Lakambini, Hanzel Mae R. Perez.
The next segment of this celebration comes with the adorable presentations of our students from the nursery to the grade 6 classes. Up next came the Sabayang Pagbigkas of the high school students of whom the winners were a tie between grades 9 and 10.
The event ended with a dance presentation orchestrated by our dear Teacher Joy Aileen Cataluña. The students and teachers all dancing together displayed a beautiful picture of Filipinos coming together and celebrating their heritage.
The Buwan ng Wika is a beautiful occasion and a momentous event for all Filipinos everywhere. May we all continue to cherish and value our wika for as long as we live. Remember who you are, and be proud to be a Filipino!
